In Mary Oliver’s “A Summer’s Day”, a short tale is told and a valuable question is raised; “…what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” The answer to this question for each person may not be as simple as it seems. In order to present a plan that someone has with an end goal in mind, they must have a story to tell on how they got to where they are now and how they will reach their goals in the future. This story may include their accomplishments and achievements, life hurdles, and other details that make a person’s story unique. This is my personal story, as I would tell to the grasshopper in “A Summer’s Day”. When I first became an Accounting major, I really didn’t know anything about the industry or what I would want to do with my degree. It wasn’t until I joined the Student Accounting Society in the Fall semester of 2016 that I began to figure it all out. Through this organization, I was able to learn about the different industries in the accounting profession and also learn from and meet with many different firms. As I previously mentioned, I have been a member of the Student Accounting Society for two full semesters now. To be able to show my gratitude to the organization, I recently ran for, and was elected, Director of Fundraising for the Fall 2017 semester. This will enable me to give back to the organization, while gaining valuable leadership and professional skills. I will be in charge of organizing and putting on various fundraising events over the duration of the semester in order to bring new funds into the Student Accounting Society. I will also be responsible for helping my fellow officers in their various roles in whatever it is we may need to work together on. I think this position will be very beneficial in helping me prepare for my future
