Conclusion
I accept my hypothesis that ‘tourism has a positive effect on Newtown Linford’s local economy.’
From my annotated sketch I can see that outside of Newtown Linford’s honeypot site, Bradgate Park, there are a row of small shops that have been built to benefit from the tourism at the country park.
Looking at my pedestrian count i can see that there were more people outside of the shops, than there were at any other site, as there were 16 people there, which is over 50% of the data. Having lots of people at the shops means that they are spending money there, therefore earning money for the local economy. Another thing i can tell from the annotated photo and that helps to earn money for Newtown Linford’s economy is the fact that all along the street and particularly outside of the shops, there is traffic control. Having double yellow lines along the street with designated parking outside of the shops attracts tourists from the honeypot site to park there: as people would rather park outside of the country park for free, than park inside and pay. When people are parking outside of the shops it increases the chances that people are going to spend money.
The proportional circle sizes for site 3, outside of the shops shows that the area is nice, and when the area is nice, people are attracted to it and spend money there.
The location of the shops is important as because they are just outside of Bradgate Park, they are going to get a lot of visitors from tourists
