Since joining Hillsborough Soccer Club in second grade, my journey with the sport of soccer has been nothing short of transformative. Over the span of ten years, my involvement with HSC has taught me various priceless lessons that have molded me into the person I am today. The first HSC team I ever joined created a core group of players that I am still friends with today. Being on this team for so long allowed us to form bonds that otherwise wouldn’t have happened, and it showed on the field. The environment that HSC created for my team and I allowed us to get to know each other better, and this showed on the field too. The team I was a part of at HSC lasted for 10 years, and for 5 of them I held the role as one of the captains for us. I was given this responsibility by multiple coaches, who saw that my utility to the team could be seen on and off the field. I took on the role proudly, and led the team to the best of my ability for half a decade. I led the team on the pitch, controlling the tempo of games and scoring crucial goals, but I also affected the team socially. I kept us disciplined in practice and made sure we respected our opponents. This was the first time I was given the confidence of those above me to lead a team and I excelled. One pivotal figure in my soccer journey was Coach Colbi, whose leadership and commitment to excellence were exemplified during our undefeated season. His unwavering dedication to discipline in soccer left a lasting impression on me, as his lessons transcended the field and became applicable to me in various aspects of my life.
