Huck and Jim longed to be freed from civilization. Huck from the Widow and Pap, and Jim from slavery
-Slavery
In the south circa 1830s or 40s, most white privileged men didn’t have a problem with slavery. Everyone had slaves, it was the normal. Twain appeals to his readers because he wanted them to know that slavery didn’t have to be the normal thing.
- Money
There were many differences between the poor and the rich. Those who have a surplus of money, do not have a worry about their financial state. At the beginning of the novel, Twain creates Huck a a very wealthy boy, which gives Huck a very “laid-back” and “relaxed” character because he has enough money to support him for a long time. Having money means having a title, or status.
