In Lord of the Flies the author, William Golding, portrayed his view on human barbarity with the use of rhetorical strategies such as, diction and personifications . “Then Jack found the throat and the hot blood spouted over his hands…” (194).The phrase “hot blood” provides the diction of steam arising from the piglet’s blood as its throat is being still by Jack. This clearly signifies the barbarity that has overcome jack due to the humiliation he feels after being rejected by the group as chief. Also, when the,”blood spouted over his hands” it symbolizes the uncleanliness the at Jack must feel after being betrayed by the boys. Golding has demonstrated human nature as barbaric and ruthless, especially when a person has been degraded like Jack.
