Solimar, as a voyeur of their intimate life, one day witnesses a particularly brutal encounter. Perpetue disappears after that. Apparently she went back to the Dominican Republic to see her children. In her absence Solimar and Roberto develop an intense and violent sexual relationship. The fact that its wrong makes it right for her. She lost both her parents when she was very young. Supposedly, her mother abandoned them causing her father to commit suicide. She hasnt been back to Puerto Rico in a long time and canceled any connection with her past. The sudden appearance of an unidentified womans dead body in the Bronx River awakes her suspicion. Solimar has fallen in love with Roberto and what could be a threat for her its transformed into an erotic drive that she cant stop. She has to decide whether to confront Roberto or live with the most terrible doubt. The main characters in under my nails is Solimar, Roberto, Perpetue (Roberto’s wife), and Roberto’s mother Goya. The setting is in New York in the Bronx. Solimar is 27 years old she lives by her self down the hall from Roberto’s family her bedroom is ancient to Roberto and perpetue’s room so she hears everything that is going on in there room. Solimar works in a nail salon in the Bronx. Roberto works in a tailor shop his mother and his wife don’t work at all. Perpetue is Dominican she lives with Roberto and his mother and she has been trying to get her kids up here from Haiti and the Dominica for a while Roberto was supposed to bring them up here but he never did, instead he brought his mother up here and told his wife Perpetue that he will try and bring her kids. The mother Goya and the wife Perpetue didn’t get along at all all they did was argue. The mother didn’t like her. Solimar was single and fantasized about Roberto all the time. She would listen to Roberto and Perpetue fight and argue and have sex rough and abusive sex and solimar wanted that for some odd reason she wanted what Perpetue had. Solimar wanted the fights and the arguing and the abusive sex. Solimar feels a connection with her innermost desires and true identity. Solimar becomes obsessed with the violent sexual practices of her new neighbors solimar would look in the bedroom window and watch Roberto and perpetue have sex and watch him beat her till one night Roberto banged his wife’s head to hard on the floor and he killed her by accident.
