If you just had to leave everything behind in a matter of minutes, your family, friends and even your personal belongings, and didn't even know what was going on, it would definitely be a tragic time. The books Night and Between Shades of Gray, will show you how it was for a boy named Eliezer to leave everything, and try to get through the rest of his life not knowing what it could bring him. And, a girl is left with only her mother and brother while their father is still possibly somewhere trying to survive life without them. The book Night really shows how Human Spirit can be involved in this book. In the book Between Shades of Gray, it tells you how Lina and her mom and brother have to do work in order to get food rations, but this family is getting more food than any of the other people in the book Night. In the book Night all they pretty much get is either a very little bit of bread, or on a special occasion they will get soup. In the book Between Shades of Gray Linas mother gets asked to almost be a part of their side and help them out with things like running into town to do things for them and she would get more things like food or clothing. And, the people that were living at this camp did not necessarily stay in bunk rooms with a bunch of bunks inside of it, they were almost staying inside of a small house with little to nothing in them. Also, when there was a special occasion like a birthday party, they would actually try to celebrate it and they could quite possibly even get chocolate if the stole it from the NKVD officers. In the book Night though, it is based on a true story and it is told how it actually happened. They got hardly any food and were told to run all the time to different camps every so often. Some people just couldn't stand it anymore and started to eat the snow that was on the ground. Others, just laid on the ground and let themselves die because they no longer had
