1) I really liked her analogy of comparing the treatment of Native Americans to the Hunger Games. I think it really brought in to perspective how serious this history is. Many individuals do not think something as horrific as the Hunger Games could occur. Native American children were stolen from their homes. Individuals were forced to assimilate to the American culture or the Capital culture in the case of the Hunger Games. I think it is crucial to real how dehumanizing settlers treated Native Americans.

4) It’s interesting: I talk about the events of mass hanging and massacres in my people’s history, and I’m told to “get over it.” But mention Pearl Harbor or 9/11, and the rallying cry is “Never forget!” This quote stood out to me a lot because it really made me realize how we value certain tragedies over others. I think all tragedies that have happened in our past need to be recognized, mourned, and respected. It is very sad to see certain groups history as being more worthy of remembrance than others.

I used the link from her story to gather more information. It discussed the start of the conflict between the Dakota people and the new settles that lead to a massive massacre. Abraham Lincoln sentenced 265 Dakota warriors to death and sent the rest of the tribe on marches. The Dakota tribe was forced to leave because they were exiled from the Dakotas.
