The story gets very interesting very fast. Janice had to change out of her hunting overalls because according to her story, she had stumbled Ina mud bog along the fence, and got mud on the bottom half. Additionally, a bullet from a .308 rifle was found in the ground a few yards away, and on the opposite side, about 60 yards away and in a direct line with the body, was a .308 casing. Even more interesting was the fact the Janice's ex-husband had also been camping about 3/4 of a mile away from the Dodsons, and that he owned a .308. He was of course immediately a main suspect, but he claimed that he had been hunting with his boss all that day, and while he was away from his camp someone had stolen his .308 rifle. Investigators looked for that rifle for 3 consecutive summers, and it was never found. after one of the final searches, two of the investigators, Bill Booth and Dave Martinez, camped along a cattle pond near where Lee's camp had been. They noticed that this particular pond had been lined with bentonite, a type of clay that would help keep the water from draining off into the dirt. They took samples of the mud around the Dodsons' camp, as well as from the pond by Lee's camp that contained bentonite. They then compared that mud with what was found on Janice's overalls from that day, and realized that the mud was from the bentonite lined pond, not from the mud bog by her camp as she claimed. Furthermore, there were no other bentonite lined ponds anywhere else in the area. According to the mud on the overalls, she had been at her ex-husband's camp about the time that he claimed his rifle has been stolen. Additionally, the campsite was her ex-husband Lee's favorite spot, and she would of course know that, as well as the fact that he owned the
