The title “Hunting near Hartenfels Castle” reminds me most about hunting. More specifically of when my father would tell me stories about when he was young. There was a time when he would go hunting in the wooded area behind his childhood home by himself. He used to tell me about how he hunted small animals like squirrels, birds, and bunnies. He did this quite often. He also always mentions the day he swore that he would never go hunting again. It was a normal day when he was out hunting and after about an hour he was headed back to his home when he came face to face with a deer, just a few feet away. They stared at each other for a while before the deer bolted away. I don’t know what it was about this deer that made him change his ways, or even if he knew, but I think that it was an oddly inspiring story. It also reminds me of our trips to Squire’s Castle where we would just hike through the wilderness. Hunting near Hartenfels Castle is a very busy painting. It depicts a hunting party out in the woods with a river running across the image and a castle off in the distance. Although I could not possibly say that it is a bad painting, it is very beautiful, especially in person. The reason I do not like it is because of the subject matter. I am not going to judge those who do hunt, I just don’t like the idea of it. I feel that this panting depicts the very violent side of hunting. The men with spears and the dogs that are hunting especially seem to radiate aggression. Another reason that I do not like this painting is because when looking at this painting from up-close and in person, all the people in this painting look the same. All the women have the same faces and the same outfits, same goes for the men. There is no variety in people which I was disappointed
