The shape and size of a hurricane and tornado contradict each other dramatically. A mature hurricane has a circular shape to it and has three parts including, the eye, eyewall, and outer regions. The eye is the center of the hurricane and is clearly defined in almost every storm as it is building stronger. The strongest winds in a hurricane are located in the eyewall, which surrounds the eye (Snowcroft). The wind speeds of a hurricane can range between seventy-four miles per hour and 156 miles per hour (Saffir-Simpson). The size of a hurricane can be anywhere from fifty to three hundred miles in diameter. A tornado, however, has a different size and shape than a hurricane. The amount of warning before a hurricane will hit land can be anywhere from days to weeks, whereas a warning for a tornado is minutes to hours. The exact destination a hurricane will hit is known within days, but the storm system will last remarkably longer than that, with frequent changes in the hurricane’s path (Bansal). The time to prepare for a hurricane is plenty of time to stock houses with food, water, and other supplies needed to survive if people can not leave their house due to high water or grocery store closure. Tornadoes have the exact opposite warning time than a hurricane. The conditions for the chance of a tornado can be predicted within hours before it hits, however, tornadoes rarely leave much more than a couple of minutes to warn people that they are coming (Bansal). Sometimes they may even have no warning so there is no time for people to prepare for tornadoes. It is much easier to prepare for a hurricane than a tornado, due to the fact that there is much more warning before a hurricane will hit
