There are two types of Hydrocephalus. One is congenital and the other is acquired. “Congenital hydrocephalus is a birth defect most often associated with a dome-shaped skull (sometimes referred to as “water head” or “apple head”), a large fontanel (“soft spot”) on top of the skull, and eyes that appear to gaze downward (called the “setting sun sign”)”. (Ward, 2012). The acquired hydrocephalus is caused by blockage of a tumor, or swelling by infection, which causes the cervical spinal fluid to accumulate in the skull. Any injury to the brain can cause Hydrocephalus. Brachycephalic and toy dog breeds are more prone to get this disease as congenital in utero or inherited.
