The procedure that I would use to determine the percent magnesium within the metal alloy would first consist of obtaining the total mass of the metal. Once I have recorded the overall mass, I would place the alloy into the hydrochloric acid. Since I know that only the magnesium will react with the hydrochloric acid, any metal that does not react within the hydrochloric acid is NOT magnesium. When the alloy is finishes reacting, I would take out the metal that remains and record the mass again. Any decrease in mass of the alloy would be of magnesium that reacted with the hydrochloric acid. After using simple subtraction to subtract the remaining metal from the initial mass, I would now know the mass of the magnesium that reacted with hydrochloric
