As we develop in our mother’s womb during the natal months, all human beings are forming skin, nails, glands, hair, etc. Unfortunately, for every one out of 5,000 to one out of 10,000 newborns can be affected by a disease called Hypohidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia or HED. Hypohidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia is a disease of the Integumentary System. Hypohidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia is one of one-hundred and fifty types of Ectodermal Dysplasia (genetic disorders affecting the development or function of the teeth, hair, nails and sweat glands). We sweat to release sweats and also to help cool down our bodies. For the people who have Hypohidrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia, they are born with a small amount of sweat glands,sometimes even no sweat glands. Being unable to sweat can bring your body to high temperatures, which is endangering to a person's life. To help resist irritation or such threats, it is suggested to stay indoors as much as possible and stay in cool areas. It's also suggested that they wear light clothing. Along with the sweat glands, the skin also can be greatly affected by warm/hot temperatures. Which leads to heat intolerance and “unexplained” fevers. For males it is usually inherited through the x-linked genes, but for females they carry a single copy of the disease gene, which they later on begin to show signs and symptoms. Another way is inherited as an autosomal recessive genetic trait, caused by mutations in EDAR/EDARADD or protein binding agents.
