Interpretive Response: Tone of “I am Malala” In the beginning of the novel “I am Malala,” the author conveys a nostalgic tone towards her home in Swat Valley through the use of telling diction, imagery, and sentence structures. This is first seen when after discussing her life in England and the boons she has reaped, the author reflects on the negative consequences of her move and laments that she “can no longer… hear the sweet sound of the rivers (Yousafzai xvii)” of her home.
