Our past is filled with memories, some pleasant, some haunt us so much we just cannot let go of them. Memories shape the thoughts and feelings people have. For example, if a person has unpleasant memories of someone, then that person is not viewed very positively. There is a point in time though, when a person needs to forgive and move on from a person that did horrible things to them. Some people struggle with moving on and let this one thing haunt them for the rest of their life. This causes them to not live life to the fullest. Which is why it is important for a person to live life to the fullest and to not hold onto the past.
The story “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” also supports the claim by saying, “For nearly a year, I sopped around the house, the store, the school and the church, like an old biscuit, dirty and inedible” (Angelou 53). In this text the author, Maya, is saying how she didn’t live life to the fullest and just walked around doing as told not trying to make friends. If you research Maya Angelou’s life you learn that she was abused when she was 8 years old. After she was abused, she went into this state where she was just doing what was supposed to be done and not making friends.
