(1) Deciding on a career is a big step towards the future, this small decision will change one’s life and start them on their path of adulthood. Throughout my life, I have always known that I wanted to pursue music, but only this past year I decided on getting my degree in Music Therapy. As a Music Therapist; I get to work with cancer patients, challenger programs, and nursing homes; everyday will be a new adventure, with my jobs flexible schedule. Music Therapist; one who helps and resolves others problems, through music; is a career I wish to pursue due to my interest in music, environment, and income. (2) As a Music Therapist, one designs therapy sessions to help clients solve problems and meet their goals, through music. Therefore; they will need to know how to sing, play musical instruments, help establish goals, be organized, and how to communicate with others. A therapist needs to keep their skills up to date, perform research, customize treatment plans, observe and document clients reactions, and assess client strengths and weaknesses (“Task List” 1). Sometimes, they will need console in emergencies, when a patient freaks out, and tries to harm themselves or the Therapist. There will never be a day they can relax; from singing, to playing instruments. One will need to understand the speech of another person, and how to communicate back. Working with challenger programs and hospital patients, they will often work with patients that have trouble speaking and expressing their feelings. Therefore, a Music Therapist will have to be patent when in sessions. Also in sessions, one will have to sit or stand for long periods of time, causing them to occasionally become tired.
