There are so many things I have learned throughout nursing school about how to be a nurse and the kind of nurse that I want to be. I have grown as a nursing student as well as a person through the last 12 months which has definitely defined what I want to going forward. I do not want to just stop at a registered nurse, I want to keep going and have my own practice one day and actually be able to help people as a person. When going through my clinical rotations I have had the nurse who could careless and is just there for the money and I have had the nurse who wants to go above and beyond for the patient. I want them to go home with a good understanding instead of going home blind and putting themselves at risk rather than helping themselves recover. I want to teach a patient how to prevent other diseases as well as protect them from worsen the condition they already have. The doctor provides the diagnosis and treatment plan, but the nurse is also responsible for teaching patients about their medical conditions and the potential impact they may have (Williams, n.d.). Teaching the patient what information they need to know can have a tremendous impact on their lives. Another way to show leadership is to advocate for the patient, to fight for the patient to receive the best care and treatment they can have. A patient is in the hospital for a certain period of time and during that time the nurse is the person who knows them the best because they are with that patient constantly. The doctor with the nurse because they are the one who is constantly monitoring the patient and knows what is happening. They should always fight for the patient to get exactly what they need based on what they now. I want to be a good nurse not only with my skills, but with truly helping the patient as a
