After war people assume everything is better and the world is at peace again but they rarely think about the effect the war has on the soldiers. They’re expected to fight, to kill and then to brush themselves off and walk off the battlefield as if nothing ever happened. The poem I have chosen is “I was only 19” which originated as an Australian folk song by Redgum. I have found “I was only 19” to make numerous references to the symptoms of the mental disorder P.T.S.D.
P.T.S.D is rarely in the media and doesn’t get the recognition an issue this big deserves. P.T.SD is an issue common in soldiers because of the life threatening experiences they have to face. 30 percent of soldiers develop P.T.S.D within 3-4 months of coming home. I was only 19
