Upon the conclusion of Act I, Iago and Roderigo appear to have a relationship based on superficial and fake friendship. In the inception of Act I both Iago and Roderigo speak interested in each other’s problems, although they begin in disagreement and argument. Through analysis of their argument in the beginning, Roderigo becomes aware of an innuendo of mistrust—“You told me you hated him (21).” (Ironically, after admitting that he abhors Othello, he proceeds to warn Othello about Brabantio.)
