Characterization of Iago Maleficent from Disney’s Movie Sleeping Beauty, Lady Tremaine from Disney’s movie Cinderella, Scar from Disney’s movie The Lion King, and The Wicked Queen from Disney’s movie Snow White. What do these set of evil villains have in common? Not only being known as some of the most classic villains in movie history they all originate from the first diabolical villain. Iago. In Shakespeare play Othello, Iago uses his brilliant wits and smart tactics to use the characters in his devious ways, just like the other villains. Although Iago exhibits his evil motives and his role as an evil genius just like as any other villain, he is one of the most manipulative, nefarious, jealous characters in the play and villain in villain history. Iago manipulative ways display why he is one of the best villains of all time. In the beginning of the play, Iago states that he hates the moor, Othello, for choosing Michael Cassio to receive the promotion instead of Iago. This sets in motion the beginning of Iago plans. Infuriated with this knowledge him and Roderigo both sneak up to Brabantio balcony to try and inform him on his daughter, Desdemona, marriage with Othello. As the main antagonist, Iago must overall evil and with the countless murder he is responsible for there is no doubt that Iago is pure evil. First with Roderigo, yelling after Iago betrays him by stabbing him, he says “O damn'd Iago! O inhuman dog!” (5.1.74). In Roderigo lasts moments he then realizes that Iago is not the man he claims to be. Iago evil ways continue when shortly after he kills his wife Emilia. “The woman falls; sure, he hath kill'd his wife.” (5.2. 283).
