William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was born and baptized in Stratford-on-Avon, where he was also buried. He was the son of a mayor and a glove maker. He married Ann Hathaway, twenty-six, when he was eighteen. Together they had three children including, twins. In London, by 1592, he was a well-known actor and playwright. From 1594 until he stopped working, he stayed with the same theatrical company, the “Lord Chamberlain’s Men.” He wrote thirty-six plays, one of them is “Hamlet and King Lear.” As an actor he was known to play supporting roles like the ghost of Hamlet’s father. She stands up for her husband making everyone believe her, even her father. He joins their hands together and gives her permission to travel with him. Iago gets Cassio drunk and into a street fight, causing Othello to strip him from his rank. Iago is jealous of Cassio because he felt that he didn’t deserve the rank Othello gave him. Iago felt that he had more experience than what he did. Iago is also jealous of Othello and plots against him. He plans to make Othello think his wife is having an affair. He tells him that Cassio is her lover. Othello believes him and becomes upset and jealous. Othello wants Iago to help him murder Desdemona and Cassio. Iago gets Desdemona’s handkerchief and puts it in Cassio’s room. The handkerchief was Othello’s first gift to Desdemona, a token of his love. Cassio ends up giving the handkerchief to his mistress, Bianca. Othello sees her with it and confirms his suspicions that Desdemona and Cassio are lovers. Othello talks down to his wife in front of everyone, bringing a surprise to them. Iago convinces Roderigo to kill Cassio, but Cassio ends up injuring Roderigo, then Iago stabs Cassio thinking he is dead. Othello thinks Iago has killed Cassio, so he goes home to kill Desdemona. He finds her sleeping in bed and kisses her, wakes her, and accuses her again. She says she is innocent and loves him, but he smothers her. Emilia enters into the room and Desdemona revives for a moment, saying she is innocent and Othello is innocent of her death. Iago and others enter and Emilia defends Desdemona’s innocence and sees Iago is behind all of it. Othello sees the truth and tries to kill Iago. Iago kills Emilia and flees; Othello commits suicide. Iago is caught and taken
