Introduction
Theology and doctrine of God’s plan is dictated in the scriptures. In the scriptures men can find the plan of salvation. Men can have abundant life if they follow the will of God.
Salvation
Novelist and doctor Ian Jones states “even with the best of intentions and considerable experience, people are not always able to help themselves or save others” (p.42). The words of Dr. Jones are true because man’s only hope is found in Jesus Christ. Scripture teaches that salvation was made possible by the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ. Salvation is needed because human beings in the flesh would sin and fall away from the glory of God, therefore men needed a means of repentance. Ian Jones is a professor of psychology and counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and a published author. His book, Foundations for Biblical Christian Counseling: The Counsel of Heaven on Earth, speaks of a theologically sound model of biblical counseling found in the books of Genesis and Isaiah. Besides being a reputable author, Dr. Jones also holds the Baptist Community Ministries' Chair of Pastoral Counseling. Dr. Jones’ stressed that people must view the Bible as their source of truth. By nature God is sovereign, holy, omnipotent, omniscient, immutable, wrathful, and of love.
Three views led the movement of scriptural study on the subject of the nature of man. They are trichotomy, dichotomy, and psychosomatic unity. Trichotomy is the theory that declares the constitution of man consists of three parts or components. Dichotomy is the philosophy that the constitution of man consists of two separate components. Psychosomatic unity is the premise that the constitution of man consists of a single or the unitary constitution that cannot be divided into different components. All areas of the nature of man have been created for good by God and all have been affected by the fall of Adam. While the great fall of Adam and Eve brings death, through the atonement of Jesus Christ there is life. If people will become a slave to righteousness, they will be released from their sins and be able to have the Holy Spirit live inside them. For all Christians, all things will work out for the better if they only choose to love God.
McGee warns that if people believe that their self-worth is based on meeting the world’s standards, it can lead to anger, pride, and depression, but recognizing the God has already accepted fulfilled all self-worth and promotes happiness and peace. A sinner must be cleansed of all sins before he can return to his Father, Jesus Christ made this possible through his crucifixion.
Abundant living is not made up of physical things people have, not even the physical blessings that we receive from God such as food, clothing or shelter. Abundant living is what Jesus came to bring us and we have abundant life as we follow
