Ida'ya Hawkins is a fifteen year old female with an undesirable, risky behavior of early sexual activity. A major factor for why the problem exist is the lack of awareness of the consequences of sex. The problem may also exist because friends are having sex and Ida'ya may feel pressured to have sex as well to impress her friends. Another reasonable explanation as to why the problem exist is, Ida'ya sees it as a way of being mature; being an adult. One of the many reasons the behavior needs to be modified is that Ida'ya is less financially and emotionally stable to handle the dire consequences of sex than someone older and more mature. Having this behavior modified will give Ida'ya the benefits of not worrying about pregnancies, sexually…show more content… If you were sexually active at a very young age, explain to her why she should not follow the same path you chose. Let her know how you feel about sexual relationships before marriage and sexual activities with teens. Explain to her the difference between love, lust, and sexual desire, and how all three can be entangled into being one. Have an open mind, and allow her to talk about her own sexual values as well.
Monitor Ida'ya's activities and friends- “Mind the company you keep” is a cliché but it reigns true. Since most teenagers are influenced by their peers, it is wise to get to know her friends and their parents. While getting to know her friends and their parents, you are assessing if you all share similar morals and values. Establish rules, curfews, and standards of expected behavior, and be very adamant about the boundaries set. If Ida'ya is not involved with any extracurricular activities, now would be a great time to introduce her to something that would positively impact her life. She should also explore leadership responsibilities and interesting hobbies. Extracurricular activities, leadership responsibilities, and hobbies should keep her busy and her mind preoccupied so that she has very little time to think about
