1. Identify which socializing agents beyond the family you consider influential in your life, and discuss how socializing agents can be both positive and negative in the develeopment of the self.

I have found that my socializing agents have changed with self awareness and different experiences. Currently, the social agents that I find to be the most influential are work and media. The social agent of work is highly influential as I spend most of my day at work. Having worked in insurance for a year and having insurance be my first real job, I have learned skills that I had never learned as well as the culture and customs of the corporate world. In order to hold employment I also had to repress the immature habits that I gained from my college and high school peer group.Witt states, "Socialization in the workplace changes when it involves a more permanent shift from an after school job to full time employment. Occupation socialization can be most intense during the transition from school to job, but it continues as throughout one's work history (Witt:87)."

Now that I have been out of school for a year, I am transitioning from a full time employee to a one back in school, I have also felt the intenseness that Witt mentions. Though I feel that work is what socializes me I know that media and technology also socialize me to a great degree without me noticing it. Mass media influences me to perceive other members in a certain way. It makes me look at people my age in a comparative manner. From what clothes and makeup trends I should follow to what gadgets I must have to look cool or to make my life
