“The Ice Storm” takes place in New Canaan, Connecticut during the Thanksgiving holiday in 1973. Here we are introduced to two upper-middle-class families, as a gigantic ice storm occurs and makes the whole suburb freezing cold. But even though the families seem to have it all, there is more beneath the surface.
Although the parents rarely fight or argue, we sense a form of hopelessness or impotence among the parents - if not the whole family. All of them have a very distant and almost awkward relationship with each other; Instead of spending time together during the holiday, they all have completely different plans, and no love or affection between the parents and their children are shown in the entire film.
