Mark Osborne has hints, cues & winks throughout his film to send the viewers a message. In the beginning, it opened up with children in a small playground laughing and having a lot of fun. They were shining in bright colours. The bright shining colours represent happiness because in their society, the only things that are in colour are the things that represent happiness, such as the product, ‘Happy’. Their slogan of the product was, ‘Get Happy.’ I think that Mark tried to imply that Happiness is within you, but just like our society, people give up their own happiness for greed because they seek power and money. We think that power and money will make us happy, but happiness is something that is within us. It it something that cannot be bought. In the film, the inventor of ‘Bliss’ wanted to capture that small fragment of happiness when he saw the children on the playground. In the end, he looks back at the light of true happiness. Wanting ‘More’ than you need will only corrupt you. Also, the very dull and grey scenery shows how the business world is like in Mark’s point of view. With the same everyday lifestyle — getting up from bed, going to work, putting the same product together, then going home, it shows how dull and serious the business world is. The many tall office buildings that stand shows that businesses are large in their community. There are focus shots of the large business towers, but hardly of houses and the beauty of nature. The society will keep asking and wanting for more until it becomes polluted with corruption and greed. Our values of happiness will keep changing.
