Ignorance In Socrates Rhetoric

Ironically, Socrates’ is using rhetoric to refute rhetoric. Still, I would agree that rhetoric would tend to be more efficient towards someone that is “ignorant” to the details of a topic. Consequently, It is relatively easy to sway an audience to one side or another of an argument if they are not familiar (ignorant) with the subject or facts about the matter. Incidentally, Ignorance is the lack of knowledge, education or awareness and not a measure of intellectual capacity. Consequently, a good orator can take advantage of this lack of knowledge and only use information that is advantageous to the side rhetor supports. However, a great speaker can change the minds of those that are fully knowledgeable of all the facts to both sides of an argument.
