People view ignorance as protection from the actions and ideas of others, and they believe this will help them in the future, when in reality, this will only hurt them and the people around them being subject to the oppressor. Ignorance at a young age can be beneficial in protecting the younger generations from ideas they wouldn't understand that would interfere with their growth and development. However, as soon as they realize the actions around them and choose to disregard and ignore them blatantly, they are the problem. The lack of or disregard of knowledge on a subject can negatively impact society because by being willfully ignorant, you are choosing to ignore those who are suffering around you.
