Gail Collins once said “Illegal immigration can never be completely stopped, no matter how high the walls or how many patrol agents you have watching it.” The Immigration Bill of 2007 had provided benefits, however, the negatives overshadowed the positives. The bill had provided little to no structure in the border security, it would have caused the economy to suffer because of the various systems the government would set up, and many family structures would have fallen apart.

Michael Donahue, who is the spokesman for the National Federation of Independent Business clearly would understand because many independent businesses are usually small. Small business would go bankrupt if they were fined as much as larger businesses. Also a system was adopted similar to the guest workers program during World War ll called the Bracero. The system hadn't worked because the workers were treated like slaves. There are many “mixed” families in the U.S. where the child was either brought here at a young age or born here and their parents are illegal. If the child had come to the U.S before the age of 16 and graduated for high school they would have been able to become legalized. The illegal immigrants would have to admit they broke the law, pay a fine and the taxes they owe plus go through a background check to be able to live in the U.S. However, many immigrants don't get payed enough and would not be able to pay what they are required. This bill would also have set up a merit system for people wanting to come to the U.S with family connections there. With this system you would be able to earn points depending on your job skills, job history, education and ability to speak English. This system would have eventually gotten corrupt since many people have not seen their family in a long time. The restrictions and rules that would be set up to become legal would cause the family structure to
