Though immigration brings in different cultures, it brings with it many complications. These problems can cause struggling and stress to many immigrants. it may not only affect immigrants, but it could bring chaos to american citizens as well. Immigration brings in many people seeking undeserved privileges, increases competition for work, and creates problems for future generations. American citizens had to work to earn the privileges they have, so immigrants should expect to have to work to have those same privileges. Some immigrants believe they can enter America and have everything provided to them; however, Americans had to learn to make it on their own. In the article “What John Quincy Adams Said About Immigration Will Blow Your Mind” McAllister states, “Health care, a minimum wage job, college entrance, housing, legal representation, and education certainly weren’t promised - not like today” meaning Americans had to build the government we have today. All these improvements didn’t just appear out of thin air. The main reason we have immigrants coming to America is because they want the same privileges. The more immigrants that come to America, legal or illegal, the more competition there is in the job market. Unemployed Americans would have more job opportunities if there was less competition. Studies by economist George J. Borjas and Christopher Smith have shown that immigration reduces the employment of less educated black men and United States teenagers. In spite of these statistics, many members of Congress and President Obama support immigration. The government is giving work permits to illegal immigrants and increasing legal immigration even further. These work permits allow any immigrant to work and compete for jobs. With immigration rates increasing, the search for a job will only get more
