Good evening. My life has been dedicated to serving the state of Nevada. I followed in the steps of my father. His father, my great-grandfather. immigrated to Nevada from Chihuahua, Mexico. My father took the opportunity provided to him by his father’s decision, to serve his new country and his new state. My father was head of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and served as a Clark County commissioner. I grew up watching and learning from his example. I attended school here in Nevada at the University of Nevada, Reno. I graduate in 1986 and then and then I set about to serve my state. For four years, I was an attorney in Las Vegas. I believe we need reform that not only secures our borders but allows undocumented immigrants to earn a pathway to citizenship and ensures that Nevada families are not torn apart.

I will fight for equal pay for equal work. I believe this is necessary in order to help Nevadans who are struggling to feed their families. This should not be a partisan issue but an issue about making sure that our families are taken care of and issue fairness.

I will fight to make sure every young person in Nevada has the opportunity to pursue education after high school. Getting a good education can help our children provide better lives for themselves, the lives we dream for them. I will fight to make sure that they are not financially burdened by that pursuit. I believe that Congress needs to increase grant and scholarship opportunities and allow student to refinance their student loans. Education should be a stepping stone, not a stumbling block.

I will fight to protect women’s access to basic health care. I will fight against any efforts by Congress to restrict access to preventative health care and to shut down Planned Parenthood. Women should be allowed to make their own decisions, not
