The article “Immigration Reform By Treaty” has the intention of convincing the audience that there is an urgent need for immigration reform and the president is the only one who can make this decision. The reform concerns people from U.S. and Mexico, as well as-both countries’ economic achievements. The author underlines the president’s apathy to the problem and in this way he is trying to convince the audience that the president’s conducting policy is inefficient. Raoul Lowery Contreras is the author of the piece that was published on the website of Fox News Latino on July 30, 2014. He is a political consultant who works for New American News Service of the New York Times Syndicate, and his articles are usually published on the Fox News website in Section – Latino. The article provides detailed information about the commitment of U.S. and Mexico as the most important relationship in terms of trade, and the immigration reform that could contribute more to the U.S. economy. An analysis of logos in Raoul Contreras’ piece on the Fox News website suggests that the online articles are an effective way to convince the audience of the importance of solving problems with immigration reform and its implementation.
The audience for the article is the voting people–more specifically republican voters, as well as, all the people who are concerned about their future or in other words–all Americans. Assuming that most of the people who vote have reached maturity or at least certain age, the age range of the audience may vary from 25 to 65 years, including males and females with different social backgrounds. Another target group is the Latino Americans with age ranging from 20 to 45 years old. They would have interest in solving the problem with the immigration issues in U.S. The article was published on the Fox News web site, which suggests the audience. It is well known that Fox News represents the views of the Republicans in the U.S. There is political bias in the article that is related to a certain group of people who already have built viewpoints based on their beliefs. The Republicans are not expected to represent the president in a complimentary way, because they are the opposition. They criticize and doubt Obama’s governance all the time. In the meantime he is the one who took the first steps in the immigration reform, and in that way he incurred the wrath of the Republicans, who do not want to give a chance to the illegal immigrants. One of the main reasons for their basis is that the majority of people that take advantage of the government support for unemployment and benefits are the immigrants. The Republicans seem to be concerned about the economic stability in the country and its finances and that is the reason they do not agree with the president.
There is a contradiction in the article. On one side, the immigration reform by treaty will contribute to both the U.S. and Mexican economies with the free movement of people and capital. On the other side, the Republicans disagree with Obama’s immigration reform and his governance. Moreover, the Latino Americans will have interest in solving the problem too. They represent a large number of the statistics for the illegal immigrants. The particular audience of the Fox Online News is most likely to agree with the author because the assumption is that they share the same opinion. The author points out the problem at such a level that makes the article very serious and even judgmental. He points out the missed chances for the U.S. economy and the indifference to the problem in a moment that the president should be more concerned about these issues. This is achieved through all the aspects–political, economic and racial, and that’s why it was published on the News website, Section–Latino.
