I have heard it said, “A girl’s best friend is her mother.” I choose the Mother and Daughter relationship topic because of the bond my mother and I had when she was alive. Over the past 15 years, my mother taught me so many important life lessons from cooking, cleaning, self-control, obedience and many more. Over the years, my mother made unthinkable sacrifices to get my family from Africa to where we are today. My mother woke up at five o'clock every morning to sale fruits and vegetables to pay for our school fees. A woman who literally put her life on the line during the First Liberian Civil War to prevent the killing of her oldest daughter. Through all pain, she still managed to show love to her beautiful kids.
In the book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Henrietta did not have the chance to build an unbreakable bond with her mother before she passed away. The passing of her mother played an important role in shaping Henrietta’s life. After her mother's passing, she had to learn everything on her own. The author Rebecca Skloot did not give many details about Henrietta’s feelings on this event, but the readers could tell Henrietta had little knowledge about her family history.
