If everyone belongs to everyone else and having a sexual relationship means nothing, why would the people in the book Brave New World be so particular about imperfections when it comes to who they are sexually active with? As Lenina gets on the elevator she realizes that all the men around her are ones she has had a sexual relationship with for the expected short amount of time. She thinks about all the men and their imperfections, “ … She did wish that George Edzel’s ears weren’t quite so big… and looking at Benito Hoover, she couldn’t help remembering that he was really too hairy when he took his clothes off.” People in this book count how many people they sleep with and act as though the higher number they have, the better of a person …show more content…
Bernard worries about his size and this creates a problem with how confident he is. Lewis Carroll has the same confidence issues, but because of his speech problem. Bernard feels he has to take an extra step and yell at others to have them follow his commands; because he is so short, others take him as a person lower than the Alpha caste. He finds himself in multiple disadvantages because of his size, women aren’t attracted to him and he cannot order others around like any average alpha male would be able to do. Bernard’s lack of confidence makes him unable to talk to women and the people he works with; he thinks people are constantly judging him for his unusual height. The way bernard lacks confidence reminds me of the author of Alice in Wonderland. Lewis Carroll had issues with his speech and this made him unable to talk to any adults. Carroll always thought people were judging him for his inability to speak normally and this affected his confidence so much. Carroll could speak to children because he felt they weren’t judging him and Bernard talks to only the people he can relate to. Bernard talks to Lenina and Helmholtz because they are like him, different from everyone else.
