The gender roles in the texts are similar and different in different ways. In Keeping corner the roles are simply the gender role of a woman is to cook food and marry a man. For a man it is to marry a woman and have a job and supply a family with food and resources. The mother Susannah Meeker has the job of cooking and cleaning. She is a very religious and hardworking mother. Susannah has a voice and is allowed to have an opinion unlike in Things Fall Apart if you voiced the opinion and Okonkwo didn’t like your answer you were beaten very hard. The job of the father Eliphalet Meeker is to run the tavern, which is called the Meeker Tavern. He is a patriot he is loyal his job is to steer his sons on the right path. But Sam Meeker did not he joined the rebel side he deliberately disobeyed his father. This is what Nwoye did to his father Okonkwo in Things Fall Apart. They are saying the men are dominant and the woman is supposed to stay home, cook, clean and take care of the children. They are people the children that they look up to and that influence their decisions growing up. There are traditional family values. The women are just brought down by the norms of the society they live in.
