Inequalities in health are one of the common issues in any health care system. They are complex, and unavoidable. Inequalities in health are defined as the differences in health status. The health inequalities occur due to the differences in socio-economic factors. One of the factors that affect inequalities in health is the income (Eikemo, Bambra, Joyce, & Dahl, 2008; McGrail, van Doorslaer, Ross, & Sanmartin, 2009). Income-related health inequalities are not limited to the developing countries, yet can be found in the developed countries. As a result, Australia is also experiencing income-related health inequalities to some extent (Arnold, 1993).

Moreover, by analysing Household Expenditure Surveys from 1993/1994 to 1998/1999, G. Athanasopoulos and F. Vahid (2003) suggest that the income inequality among people who were over 15 years old, rose between 1993/1994 and 1998/1999. In 2013, in a subsequent contribution done by Austen and Redmond (2013), it is found that males’ income take a dominate place and it is identified as the level of determination in Australian family income. Though male earnings take a dominate role, women’s earnings also take a considerable role and it impacts on total family income.
