Many people assume that Colonial America was a land of opportunity and liberty. It was, but it was also a land of much oppression. These three things played a significant role in making Colonial America.

In Colonial America there were many opportunities at hand for the people who dwelled there and also for the newcomers. Each Colonial consisted of different opportunities. Massachusetts Bay Colony had many job opportunities such as agriculture, fishing, logging, and also shipbuilding, which served as the hub for trading between the Southern Colonies and Europe. All thirteen Colonies gave opportunities to many foreigners who wanted to move to Colonial America. That was the beginning of indentured servitude. Indentured servitude is a person under contract to work for another person for a definite period of time, usually without pay, but in exchange for free passage to a new country. Indentured servitude was a way to a better life for many men and women.

Freedom was allowed in many areas of life, but the one that really stands out was freedom of religion. The Middle Colonies showed tolerance towards many religions such as Lutheranism, Calvinism, Catholicism, Anglicanism, and many more. The Southern Colonies also let people practice their religion of choice too. But not all colonies showed the same kindness and respect towards other religions like the Middle Colonies and the Southern Colonies did. Although the New England Colonies were stricter on religion than any other colonie they still did show tolerance towards many religions. I believe freedom of religion was one of the greatest laws that Colonial America ever
