The Indigenous peoples of the Americas are the pre-Columbian peoples of the Americas and their descendants. They are called various names from Indigenous people, native people, Aborigines, Red Indians among others by various countries and various languages. There have been various theories about how humans came to the Americas. This paper will delve into these theories.

It is difficult to tell the number of people that lived in the Americas during the 1500s since there was no such thing as Census where information was obtained and recorded about the members of a given population, how then do we know the estimate of population from long ago. Ways that were used to keep track of the population was what the Europeans left behind in documents, though their accuracies have been disputed such that, it was argued that religiuos missionaries only kept records of the people they were able to converted to christainity. some also did not keep any records at all.Also the fact that different Indigenous people were discovered by the Europeans at different times and places made record keeping of them difficult.
