Arthur Miller wrote The Crucible in 1933. He wrote The Crucible because this represented one of the modern issues of individual freedom versus conformity. The play ties back to events that happened back in 1693, 240 years after. The events are tied to the investigation to find communists and created fear and suspicion in the american society. This was very similar to what happened in the event of The Salem witch trials and the events that were currently happening at the time. After the play was written Arthur Miller was summoned by the House Committee and then accused of being a communist, he was fined and given thirty days pended jail sentence.
