Individual Holocaust Paper: Experimentation in Concentration Camps Many people know about the horrors of the Holocaust. They know about the mass genocide that occurred, they know about the near eradication of the Jews, and they know about the concentration camps. However, there is a hidden something that went on in these concentration camps; something that many people don’t know about . . . the Nazi experiments. These experiments were mainly performed on gypsies, heterosexuals, twins, and healthy “specimens.” The victims were tormented and tortured to satiate the curiosity of the Nazi doctors and to try to find solutions to German soldier’s problems. The first of the experiments was conducted to treat the wounds of German soldiers inflicted on the battle field. Dr. Herta Oberheuser conducted these experiments and they were though as some of the most disturbing and agonizing experiments (The Nazi Doctors). She rubbed glass, wood, and shrapnel into cuts on the subjects. This caused infection and excruciating pain to the victim and many died because of it. Men and woman were experimented on to determine the best way to exterminate large amounts of people in a small period of time. Woman had caustic substances injected in their reproductive organs which caused immense pain and bleeding. Woman and men had to undergo a method of sterilization using radiation. They were positioned under an x-ray and their reproductive organs were targeted. This resulted in sometimes fatal burns and blisters (The experiments).
