Effective leaders support individuality because Antigone demonstrate the ability to take a risk, stand up for what she believes in even when others tell her not to do the act, and she changes most male’s perspectives on women. The first reason why Antigone is an effective leader who supports individuality is she demonstrates the ability to take a risk, and be different than the rest. In, Antigone, by Sophocles he writes, “Creon : And yet you dare defy the law. / Antigone: I dared.” [208]” In the quote Creon is asking Antigone why she defy the law especially when she knows she can’t go against a man. She replies with I dared because she went against the law, and didn’t care who created it. This quote supports the claim of Antigone having individuality …show more content…
In Antigone written by Sophocles he writes, “Haimon: But I, at any rate, can listen; and I have hear them Muttering and whispering in the dark about this girl. They s no woman has ever, so unreasonably, Died so shameful a death for a generous act: “She covered her brother’s body. Is this indecent? She kept him from dogs and vultures. Is this a crim? Death? She should have all the honor that we can give her!” [218 - 219] This quote means Antigone was able to change the mindset of most males and inspire women of the time. Women during Ancient Greece were not respected, were supposed to be submissive, and obey the male figure-head. Antigone showed them they can go against the male and make a smart decision. This relates to individuality because Antigone went against what everyone said even her male superior, and followed what she believed to be right. Due to that decision men and women conformed together and believed she did a "generous act." In the “Join, or Die” political cartoon created by Benjamin Franklin published on May 9, 1754, he has an image of a snake, and its body is cut up. Along each cut up part of the snake there is a state name along the side. The image supports conformity because it is telling the people in these states if they don’t come together they will die in battle or for not accompanying in the war. This relates to the claim because even though it is relating to individuality it relates to inspiring people during the way. It also shows that without coming together, and having the same common goal the eight states wouldn’t have rallied together.
