Individuality In The Kite Runner

In commonality, many works of literature have this idea of character development. This use of development is created to inhabit a certain relativity to the reader. The Kite Runner, a novel written by Khaled Hosseini and “The Journey”, a Poem by Mary Oliver both cross the idea of individuality. As a society, we often are caught up in this idea of gaining approval from others, but often neglect our own happiness. In order to become content we have to be determined and not allow obstacles to stop us. In the poem, “The Journey” by Mary Oliver, the author relates the poem to the reader, By creating an impression that the reader is the one making the journey. All the voices represent society in large and how collectively people follow the norms that are given by society. Collectively as human beings, people often try to follow what others have done to gain approval. The reality is that often times, individuals focus on the wants of their peers more than their own. Once someone follows their inner voice, that's when happiness can be found. The writer said “the stars began to burn through the sheets of clouds/ and there was a new voice/ which you slowly/ recognized as you own” (25-30). Following your passions, will result in becoming truly happy. Despite the obstacles, that will be faced by going against society's norms. The new journey allows for the reader to start taking initiative in their life. When individuality is discovered that's when we are most authentic to ourselves. Often times, we forget to focus on the wants and needs of ourselves as individuals. To find happiness we must surpass the obstacles to find ourselves.The Kite Runner and The Discovery both covered the theme of self-discovery and the progression of becoming more independent.
