Influenza also known as the flu is a highly contagious respiratory infection caused by the influenza virus. The virus usually enters the body through the mucus membrane through the mouth, nose or eyes. The flu can be transmitted several different ways. The most common is spread person to person from airborne contact by coughing and sneezing. Many times people pass the flu without even knowing. Another example is the spread of germs for example touching the surface of an object that has already been contaminated. Experts believe viruses were spread by droplets of saliva, nasal discharge coughing or sneezing.
