A memorial is a tribute to someone, or an event, in order to honor that person or event and to serve as a reminder. The memorial I chose is called the ‘National September 11th Memorial’. This memorial is sometimes also called The 9/11 Memorial. The 9/11 Memorial fit the description of a memorial because it was a very tragic event in American history. It was the largest loss of life on American soil from a foreign attack. This memorial is dedicated to the thousands of people that lost their lives in the Twin Towers and in Pennsylvania due to the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. It appeared to be a normal day, three planes took off from different airports. However, two of the three planes started to go off course and come back to New York City. Then, one of the planes crashed into one of the Twin Towers. People were shocked when this happened and in disbelief. Many people thought it was just an accident. Then the second plane that got off course hit the other Twin Tower. This is when people began to think it was not just an accident. Next, the third plane went off course and crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. They say the plane that crashed in the field was supposed to hit the White House. Due to some brave people on the third plane who fought the hijackers, they were able to keep it from crashing into the White House. Right after the planes crashed into the Twin Towers, the buildings were still standing. Many brave firefighters and police rushed in to save people. But, there was too much damage and both towers fell to the horror of everyone watching the news on the television. This event deserves to be memorialized because of all the innocent civilians that died and police and firefighters that risked their lives to save
