The sport that I chose to write about is American football. American Football has evolved dramatically over the past hundreds of years. First I will talk about the history of American Football, then I will talk about a pro player, and lastly, I will talk about my own experiences with this sport.

Based on the research that I have done, historians believe that the game of American Football descended from the Ancient Greeks. The Ancient Greeks’ version of American Football was called Harpastum. Harpaston was a very brutal and violent game like many others of that time. American Football has many rules to the game. A handful of those rules were present in the ancient game of Harpastum. One rule that Harpastum had was how the points were scored. Very much like American Football, the players had to either run, kick, or throw the ball over the goal line. However, unlike today’s sport, there were no sidelines. If a player steps out of bounds now, they have to give the football to the referees and then the refs will set the ball on the line of scrimmage. There was also no specific field length. Compared to today, the field length is one hundred yards long. The Ancient Greek game Harpastum could have been played on a field of two hundred yards long!
