Its was the morning of December 7,1941 all the men on naval ships were asleep. At 4:00 am only a few were up. Many of us were just getting up for another day of work. We had breakfast and got dressed for the day, but around 8:00 am we heard hug thuds. As we arrived at the harbor it was black and was filled with the noises of alarms. the base was in flames and what looked like to be enemy planes flying in the air. I was in awe of the massive destruction that these planes were doing.Soon word got around that the Japanese were the ones attacking use. We tried to fight back. Navy ships in the harbor opened fire with antiaircraft guns as soon as possible, although in some ships the ammunition was locked up(source 1). Ashore, several Army P-36 and P-40 fighters managed to take off and may have shot down as many as ten Japanese planes. It wasn’t enough because(source 2). I myself was very lucky because i was to late. Iost five of my friends in this battle and am mad at the japanese for what they had done. I still picture the faces of civilians crying and in horror of what the Japanese had done. As we were going through the wreckage I saw my friend all beaten up and red. He tried to talk to me but i told him to be quiet and to not move because he badly injured. As I looked around him I saw a fragment of metal in his left hand and didn’t tell him because I didn't want him to freak out. As I got help he was moved to the nearest hospital and we then helped other out. I personally think that these attacks were no right. Most of us had lost friends and family. Most of use at the base thought that this was an act of war on the United States by Japan(source
