What comes to mind when you hear Sandy Hook, Parkland, Vegas, or Santa Fe High School? That is right. These are just a few of the locations that were scenes of horrific mass shootings. All of which caused lots of death, injury, and heartbreak. Mass shootings have become very prevalent in the United States and many people are not sure why. All of the mass shootings have caused a lot of controversy throughout the U.S. bringing about more severe gun control laws. Some people are very strong advocates for gun control while others are critics of the entire idea. Today, I will explain to you why I think it is very important that we have stricter gun control laws. The term “mass shooting” refers to an incident involving multiple victims of gun violence. Public mass shootings account for a tiny fraction of the country’s gun deaths, but they are uniquely terrifying because they occur without warning in the most unsuspecting places. Most of the victims are chosen not for what they have done but for where they happen to be. According to an article in the New York Times, there is about one mass shooting per day.
