The frame consists of uniform 2x4’s spaced at specific increments then sheeted over with plywood before being erected on the subfloor which rests on the foundation. Once these walls are all secured they are connected with rafter beam and joists which holds the house together (Chaves, 2014). b. Balloon framing was popular in the mid 1800’s throughout the 1940’s. This method of framing was used in a two story house which consisted on one continuous wood stud from the foundation to the rafter. This method lost its popularity due to fire hazards and the difficulty of finding long wood pieces (Chaves, 2014). c. Last, post and beam framing, aka timber framing, was common in the 1700’s when house were going up in America. It consisted of vertically arranged hand cut pieces secured together with wood pegs and joints. The framing is generally left exposed leaving a rustic look. Rooms in this style of framing had high cathedral ceiling and spacious floor plans (Chaves, 2014).
