There is a thin line between fact and realign. This line is so thin that sometimes it is even crossed by the other side. The real question that should be asked though is does man have the right to question another’s belief on the merits that “they are wrong”. This is the scene that Lawrence and Lee unfold in Inherit the Wind, does a man deserve to be convicted on his beliefs.
In Inherit the Wind Brady makes any conversation into a preaching lesson about why the Bible is an end all and be all and should not be questioned. “I am here to defend that which is most precious in the hearts of all of us: The Living Truth of Scripture!” said Brady. This action is just like that of a political debate. In order to win all the people over the running candidates must proclaim not only their beliefs but why their beliefs are right. This is for the same reason Brady makes every conversation a speech; it secures his position on the subject of the evil of Evolution and allows his followers to be sucked in more and not question his moral. Both the candidates and Brady understand if they get people on their side even before they enter “the battle” then they have already won.

“In all this talk of bugs and Evil-ution of slime and ozz did Mr. Cates ever make a reference to God?” said Brady. This prosecution has happened all throughout history whether blacks should have the same rights as white people or if gays should be able to get married. This “ideas” are prosecuted with the same hatred as evolution is prosecuted. These people have done no harm to anyone but because they are different and have different ideas they are looked upon as evil by some people, as scum of the earth. This is how Cates is treated by the town’s people and by Brady because of his radical
